Sureyya Birol

Don't imagine the future. Engineer it.

Engineer and founder. I build AI for the engine room of finance — systems a company can actually depend on.

§01Craft

Boston University · Engineering & Research

The lab, not the lecture hall.

Where the engineering became rigorous.

I studied computer engineering, concentrated in AI, and all but lived in the labs. My algorithm stripped shadows from nine-band imagery without losing a pixel. I designed a new endoscope. The unglamorous work — the kind that decides whether a system earns trust.

I taught it, too — 55 students a semester, because explaining an idea is how you own it. MIT sharpened the rest: the data.

§02Scale

Microsoft · Partner Technology Strategist · 2022–2026

How technology reaches the world.

Scale is a discipline, not an accident.

Four years running partner transformation across Türkiye, Greece, and the Adriatics — from fast-growing startups to the largest system integrators. I turned AI and data initiatives into revenue, and learned how the biggest companies actually build, deploy, and scale.

Long before the current wave, I'd bet on AI solving real problems, not demos. I published 52+ partner-built solutions and grew one partner from $100K to $5M in two and a half years, across four global sites.

The work I'm proudest of never made the job description: I co-led the Female Technical Talent Program and pushed it past the partner ecosystem into startups and VCs. Innovation moves faster when opportunity is open.

§03Building

Now · SureAI · Istanbul

What I am building right now.

After years helping other companies put AI to work, I am building my own.

SureAI is where all of it goes: applied AI for the engine room of finance. Not the part that looks impressive in a demo — the part a company actually runs on. VAULT is the first product.

I could have kept advising from the outside. Building inside the problem is harder and slower, and it is the only way to find out whether the thing actually works.

That is the through-line of everything before it: the model was never the magic. Clean data, sound judgment, and a system dependable enough to put your name on. Ideas were never the rare part. Building is.

§04Principles

A few things held to be true.

  1. 01

Technology should amplify people — never replace them.

  2. 02

AI is a tool. Never the point.

  3. 03

    The best engineering disappears.

  4. 04

    Simplicity is the harder discipline.

  5. 05

    Systems outlive demonstrations.

  6. 06

Build for the decade, not the quarter.

  7. 07

Ideas are cheap. Execution is everything.

§05The Future

Don't imagine the future. Engineer it.

Right now I'm building AI that extends what organizations can do — early, and aimed far. If you're an engineer or a partner who wants in, let's build it.
